Was medicine introduced centuries ago to protect people from disease? Most of us would assume so. Dr. Gerd Reuther, a German specialist in radiology, takes the opposite view. He became known to a wider audience through his radical criticism of medicine, which he published most notably in the Spiegel bestseller Der betrogene Patient. He believes that the invention of medicine served to improve the control of the privileged elite over the common people.

In an interview with Report24 published Thursday, Gerd Reuther on vaccinations: Big business without scientific and medical evidence? (source), Dr. Reuther talks about, among other things, the lack of solid research confirming the desirability and effectiveness of vaccinations.

A central concern of the discussion was the return to the body’s self-healing powers. Dr. Reuther argued that many illnesses heal without medical intervention and that medication is only necessary in exceptional cases. He referred to studies according to which only a fraction of medical treatments actually bring demonstrable benefits, while a significant proportion are even harmful.

The freedom of movement that we have come to know over the last few decades, that we can not only move freely in any direction at any time and even simply get on a means of transport and move to other continents, has not existed for a long time.

There is also the well-known incident with the composer Johann Sebastian Bach, who once moved away from his Duchy of Weimar. And he was simply put in a hole for four weeks and his wife didn’t know where he actually was or whether he would come back.

Dr. Reuther also commented on leprosy. In the Middle Ages, it was decided in Europe to isolate leprosy sufferers from their surroundings. Islands in rivers or walled areas were designated for quarantine purposes. Strangely enough, there was no such custom in Asia, for example, and no difference in the spread of the disease was observed.
