June 12th marks the 30th anniversary of the referendum in Austria on joining the European Union. At that time it was still the European Economic Community, which officially became the European Union in December 2009 after the Lisbon Treaty came into force. I would like to point out that the current name does not contain the supposedly most important word: “economy”.

In 1994, the world looked completely different from today. Back then, my only source of information about the world was the Austrian daily news show “Zeit im Bild”, which was supposedly the most objective of all European news sources. This “objectivity” led me to falsely believe that the only perpetrator of the war in Yugoslavia was Slobodan Milošević and that the entire Serbian nation was black, unlike the other completely white nations that inhabited Yugoslavia. This image was severely shattered by my two-day visit to besieged Sarajevo in May 1993. Are you not familiar with the contemporary narrative in which some nations are declared black and others white? Not just nations, but also their culture, art, athletes and traditions, even culinary ones. War propaganda has always been tendentious.

Thirty years ago, I voted for Austria to join the EEC. For me, the Community was a symbol of peaceful cooperation between its members. Since its foundation in 1958, the economic community has not only proclaimed peaceful ways to resolve conflicts between states, but has also implemented them. Before the referendum in Austria, promises were made that banking secrecy would be maintained, the Austrian schilling would remain a means of payment, and neutrality would not be violated in any way. These were typical election promises – with a period of validity that expired after the referendum.

Today’s European Union is an anti-economic, pro-war and anti-nation-state union of Europe. It is rapidly destroying the foundations of the European economy. It is promoting a war with Russia that can no longer be won. These dozen or so economic sanctions packages directed against Russia indirectly contributed to the economic growth of this eastern empire. Today, Russia is the fourth largest economic power in the world, overtaking Japan.

If these sanctions have not helped, the continuation of this thoughtless policy will surely make Russia a country to which supporters of a better life will flee. This is why the border fences in eastern Poland are so ineffective against refugees. They are intended to prevent future migration to the east.

Ecology is always the most important thing.
For environmental reasons, the EU will produce grenades with permanently attached pins.
